Hello Stress, Goodbye Stress

Stress is an internal response to stimuli or pressures that challenge an organism's ability to adapt or cope, disrupting homeostasis or internal balance. Stress may be mental, physiological, anatomical or physical. Stressful stimuli, also known as stressors, range from chemical agents to medical illnesses to a hectic lifestyle. Psychologically, the level of stress can depend on the emotional or cognitive appraisal that a person makes of a situation and of themselves. Stress typically involves activation of the fight-or-flight response. Common neurochemical, hormonal and physiological changes have been elucidated.

Here are some of the common categories and examples of stressors:
  • Sensory: pain, bright light
  • Life events: birth and deaths, marriage, and divorce
  • Responsibilities: lack of money, unemployment
  • Work/study: exams, project deadlines, and group projects
  • Personal relationships: conflict, deception
  • Lifestyle: heavy drinking, insufficient sleep
  • Environmental: Lack of control over environmental circumstances, such as food, housing, health, freedom, or mobility
  • Social: Struggles with specific individuals and social defeat can be potent sources of chronic stresses
  • Adverse experiences during development (e.g. prenatal exposure to maternal stress, poor attachment histories, sexual abuse) are thought to contribute to deficits in the maturity of an individual's stress response systems.
Stress can be seen as a positive phenomena, an evolved adaptive response that can activate internal resources to help overcome challenges and achieve realistic goals. However, chronic stress may develop if stressors are excessive and unavoidable and too many demands are placed on an organism's internal resources. There are also individual differences in sensitivity to stressors and the propensity to the stress response. Severe or chronic stress has been linked to states of exhaustion and correlated with a greater incidence of health conditions and problems with functioning.

But ultimately, stress should be maintain to a minimum so it cannot affect one's lifestyle drastically. One of the most common and most effective way to minimize stress is through massage. Massage involves acting on and manipulating the patient's body with pressure (structured, unstructured, stationary, and/or moving), tension, motion, or vibration done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs of the gastrointestinal system. All of which can help lower the effects of stress on an individual.

That is why to reduce stress, one should get a massage. And what can make massages more effective in reducing stress is by using REVIVE.
